How are whiteboards made? What are whiteboards made of?

Not all whiteboards are created equal, and the manufacturing process will vary based on the quality of the whiteboard being produced.

Magnetic Concepts produces durable high-quality whiteboards using sturdy and long-lasting materials.

The first step in making our whiteboard is to decide if it will have a graphic on the surface or be plain white.  It if is to have a graphic, that design must be created using computer programs and then formulated for print quality.  Once the design is finalized, Magnetic Concept uses a proprietary polymer fusion process to sublimate the design below the surface on a cut-to-size dry erase coated sheet of steel.

Once the design is permanently fused with the dry erase steel, that sheet is affixed to a wood backer which is also cut to size.  The wood backer is then coated with an aluminum film to act as a moisture barrier to discourage any type of warping.  Once this is complete, the board is framed in a custom extruded aluminum channel.  The board then has hanging hardware notches installed on the back.  Once the construction of the whiteboard is complete, the whiteboard must be carefully wrapped and assembled inside a custom-built wooden crate to ensure that it is protected from damage while being shipped.  After that the board is on its way to you.

Please keep in mind that if you have ordered a whiteboard that is larger than 3’x4’, due to shipper restrictions, it will need to ship via an LTL freight carrier and cannot go via a small pack carrier, such as UPS Ground.  If this will be a problem for your delivery location, please consider limiting your board size to 3’x4’ and we will happily ship it via your normal UPS Ground carrier.
